Having a hard and rough day after somebody pushed your “hot button”?
Are you clenching your teeth and fists right now and thinking of how you hate that person and deciding to get even at him one of these days?
Are you feeling very bitter and would curse under your breath whenever you see that person and would tell yourself that you would NEVER, EVER talk to him or her again?
Well, that’s not new to this world.
But before you think like that and do something reckless which you might regret someday, here are some quotes to help you ponder and change the way you think and feel toward that person or the situation that you have just been in to.
“You are never responsible for the actions of others; you are only responsible for you. When you truly understand this, and refuse to take things personally, you can hardly be hurt by the careless comments or actions of others.” – Don Miguel Ruiz
“Everybody has a hot button. Who is pushing yours? While you probably cannot control that person, you CAN control the way you react to them.” – Unknown
“When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudice, and motivated by pride and vanity.” – Dale Carnegie
“Seek the best in everyone that you meet. Seek the worst when dealing with yourself.” – Sasha Azevedo
“A man’s own good breeding is the best security against other people’s ill manners.” – Lord Chesterfield
“Arguing with a fool proves there are two.” – Doris M. Smith
“If evil be said of thee, and if it be true, correct thyself; if it be a lie, laugh at it.” – Epictetus
“The secret of many a man’s success in the world resides in his insight into the moods of men and his tact in dealing with them.” – J. G. Holland
“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.” – Carl Jung
“Dealing with backstabbers, there was one thing I learned. They’re only powerful when you got your back turned.” – Eminem
“Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” – Mark Twain
There would always be people who are very difficult to deal with and who would rub us the wrong way, making us feel very bad. But despite of them being hot button pushers, we have the power to choose on how to react after they did something very nasty towards us. We always have a choice on how we would feel the rest of the day. We could either feel bad all day long and ruin everything or we could feel great and would just choose to forgive and understand the other person, because after all, they are the ones who needed kindness the most. We never know what are the challenges they are facing. The last thing that we could do is to condemn them.
So, are you feeling better now?
I hope so. Because it feels so good to be better than to be bitter. 🙂
Have a great day!
P.S. This is an open letter to myself, but it can be helpful to you also if in case you’re feeling something similar like this. Hope it helps you like how it helped me. 🙂
